About the Course

ChatGPT and other large language models are going to be more important in your life and business than your smartphone, if you use them right. ChatGPT can tutor your child in math, generate a meal plan and recipes, write software applications for your business, help you improve your personal cybersecurity, and that is just in the first hour that you use it. This course will teach you how to be an expert user of these generative AI tools. The course will show amazing examples of how you can tap into these generative AI tools' emergent intelligence and reasoning, how you can use them to be more productive day to day, and give you insight into how they work. Large language models respond to instructions and questions posed by users in natural language statements, known as “prompts”. Although large language models will disrupt many fields, most users lack the skills to write effective prompts. Expert users, who understand how to write good prompts, are orders of magnitude more productive and can unlock significantly more creative uses for these tools. This course introduces students to the patterns and approaches for writing effective prompts for large language models. Anyone can take the course and the only required knowledge is basic computer usage skills, such as using a browser and accessing ChatGPT. Students will start with basic prompts and build towards writing sophisticated prompts to solve problems in any domain. By the end of the course, students will have strong prompt engineering skills and be capable of using large language models for a wide range of tasks in their job, business, personal life, and education, such as writing, summarization, game play, planning, simulation, and programming....

A lot of fun, and it takes you from the basics of prompt engineering to complex but extremely useful patterns and formulae. Grab this course and you'll be "programming" in plain English in no time.

Phenomenal content about prompt engineering. I was highly impressed with the amount of knowledge that Jules White put together. The examples were practical and easy to follow. Thank you!

While I think the course content was excellent and I had to give only 4 stars because the presentation of the material wasn't as polished as it could have been. For example, in one case there was an video issue where Dr. White's image was blurred; this must have been a video recording parameter which was corrected. But instead of re-recording the segment, it was presented as is. On several occasions he forgot to put his mike on his shirt so the audio was a little difficult to understand. Again, instead of re-recording the segment, it was presented as is. In my experience when there are rough edges in one area, there are issues other areas too which leads to having less confidence in the overall product. I'll put it another way, as a manager I would not have let those easily corrected flaws go out of my shop because they are easily fixed and the overall impression it gives that it isn't important. In whole, I learned a lot and this experience won't stop me from considering other courses by Dr. White and Coursera.

I recently enrolled in a course on Coursera, and I couldn't be more thrilled with the experience. The content is not only engaging but also highly informative. The instructors are experts in their field, and their passion for the subject matter shines through in their teaching. The course structure is well-organized, making it easy to follow and learn at my own pace. What I appreciate the most is the flexibility it offers. I can balance my work and personal life while still making progress in the course. The interactive quizzes and assignments keep me motivated and help reinforce what I've learned. In just a short time, I've gained valuable knowledge and skills that are already proving beneficial in my career. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to enhance their knowledge and advance their professional development. Thank you, Coursera!

I learned a lot in this course! It gave me some basic understanding of ChatGPT's capabilities as well as some great prompt templates to help me leverage those capabilities as a beginner. The course also challenged me to think creatively about how to use different approaches in the future to get optimal outputs from ChatGPT. One more thing I'll say is that if you have something specific in mind you want to use ChatGPT for, look for a course that teaches you specifically how to use ChatGPT to do that thing. This one is more introductory, general.

This is an excellent ChatGPT course for beginner or intermediate ChatGPT users. The course gives you concepts and techniques on how to program or prompt ChatGPT or other large language models to reach your desired goal or result in any fields. It helps you unlock the power of AI. By all means, this is not the end all learning of AI. Continue to practice and learn as much as you can as AI technology continues to evolve daily like a river flowing.

I love the instructor. Easy to understand and follow along as well he has a bit of a sense of humor. He made learning fun and interesting. I withheld 1 star because it didn't seem like my homework was actually being reviewed by anyone and therefore I am not sure I did it correctly nor was there any instructor feedback. As soon as the homework is submitted it is graded immediately. Otherwise, I enjoyed the course!

Really good instruction. However, not being able to receive actual feedback on one's assignments is really limiting. You have no idea if your work is just OK or if you are really excelling. This would be really valuable in deciding if you are well suited to continuing further into your chosen academic field.

Even if you are familiar with ChatGPT this course opens up a new scale of possibilities with the AI. The courses and explanations were mostly straight forward. The last course is challenging so be prepared. Overall the course is valuable & worth repeating/keeping nearby for reference.

It´s a super interesting introducation into a structured way of using ChatGPT. Before I had a very straight forward approach to use the LLM, now I understand better how to increase the quality of the output. I´m really looking forward to continue with the 2nd part on data analysis

As a free open course, a brilliant introduction to Chatgpt. Learned many new types of prompts and methods to get more out of chatgpt. Dr. Jules's style is easygoing and interesting at the same time. Need to do more structured and advanced courses now. Thank You, Dr. White and VU.

Great content, but a little bit repetitive, could probably condense the information a bit and make it more streamlined. Also, the assignments are too open-ended. There should be more smaller assignments with prompts and hints to get more into the habit of using ChatGPT.

A list of checklist of skills to build upon including introducing the first pdf early (catalog) would be very handy as it was hard to keep tab of the various lessons learned. A quick at the end of each section to summarize the key learnings would also helped

The course becomes quite challenging from week 4 onwards, but I still enjoyed it a lot. It is one of the best courses I have taken so far. I would recommend it to users who have some prior experience and knowledge. It is not very suitable for beginners.

I thought this was a great course with a lot of great methods to get the best out of GPT. I do think the videos could be improved if the professor didn't spend so much time reading the content on his screen to the audience, we can see it ourselves.

The course provides a good introduction to the topic and then increases the level of detail as the course progresses. Also very easy to follow for non-native speakers. In my opinion, the examples given could sometimes be dealt with in more detail.

It's very good course for dealing with ChatGPT and extracting as much information as we can from it. But some patterns I see are redundant specially in weeks 5 and 6, however; still very informative overall content.

Very practical and applicable from day 1. The goal of the course is to open your mind about the capabilities and particular prompt examples. The course is very well delivered and makes the path so interesting.
