No true design history can be told without discussing garments and everything that they encompass. Fashion as Design addresses both everyday and high fashion garments from the early 20th Century to today. In this specialization you will consider the design and impact of what you wear, explore fashion as a tool for expression, and participate in creative prompts that will make you see the clothes in your closet in new ways. You’ll hear directly from a range of designers, artists, makers, historians, and others working with clothing—and, in some cases, reimagining and repairing garments for the future.
Applied Learning Project
To complete this specialization, you will hear from artists and designers, and reflect on the themes of each course and answer questions about what fashion means to you. You will consider ways to incorporate sustainable fashion practices into your life and how you use clothing as a mode of self-expression. You will also have the opportunity to engage with creative prompts using the clothes in your closet.
